The mitzvah of giving

Open your hand.
Bring more light into the world.

Tzedakah is more than generosity. It is a sacred responsibility—and a meaningful way to become a partner in Torah.

01 / An open heart

The Torah asks us to give

“You shall not harden your heart or shut your hand … Rather, you shall open your hand.”

The Torah calls us to respond to need with compassion and action. Supporting Torah learning is an opportunity to turn that open-hearted spirit into a lasting commitment.

Deuteronomy 15:7–8 · excerpt, translated ↗
02 / A shared light

A partner in the learning

Torah is light—and those who sustain its study help that light endure.

Jewish law recognizes supporting others who study as a way of partnering in Torah. You do not need to sit in the study hall to help sustain the learning that takes place within it.

Shulchan Arukh, Yoreh De’ah 246:1 ↗
03 / A meaningful beginning

Begin the day with kindness

Rabbi Elazar would give a coin to a person in need, and then pray.

The Talmud describes the practice of giving charity before prayer. Let tzedakah sweeten your day through an act of kindness: a moment of generosity that brings purpose to your prayers and care into someone else’s life.

Bava Batra 10a · paraphrased ↗

Your generosity. Their learning. Our shared future.
